Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest healing practices in the world. It involves the stimulation of specific acupoints in the body to correct imbalances in the flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”), or life energy, flowing through the body’s meridians.
While acupuncture is most commonly associated with the insertion of thin needles into the skin, skilled practitioners often employ a range of additional techniques, including moxibustion (the burning of herbs), cupping (the placement of suction cups on the skin) and massage, to further assist the body’s healing and improvements in energy flow.
Research has shown that acupuncture can be used with effectiveness in the treatment of a wide range of conditions, from gastrointestinal issues and the common musculoskeletal complaints of arthritis and back pain, to headaches, stress and mental ill-health, and reproductive and gynaecological concerns. Our acupuncturist Joanne devotes a large portion of her practice to pregnancy-related treatment, including preparation for IVF and natural conception, birth preparation and baby positioning (36 weeks onwards), induction assistance and postnatal difficulties.
The hallmark of acupuncture practice is one of holistic and individualised treatment, focusing not only on ailments but also assisting in the prevention of disease and the maintenance of general well-being.
